1Password groups

We use 1Password groups to give groups of people access to certain data. Groups are generally based on teams or roles such as Finance, HR and Engineering.

Ask in #help-IT Slack channel if you think you're not in the correct groups.

You can be in multiple groups at the same time - everyone will be in the Team Members group, which allows all employees access to company-wide logins and data.

1Password vaults

Vaults are where 1Password stores passwords, files and other data. For simplicity, we keep a one-to-one relationship between vaults and groups - for example, the Finance group has a Finance vault that stores everything that team needs and which should not be visible to others.

Each 1Password user will also have their own Private vault - this is where you can store your own logins that are unique to you and should not be visible to anyone else.

Adding a login to 1Password

If you have the Chrome extension installed and logged in, 1Password will prompt you to save or use passwords if it finds a login section on a site.

Adding an existing login

  1. Click Save in 1Password

  2. The Save in window pop up will appear and by default 1Password will save logins into your Private vault.
