Eligible new hires are automatically invited to enroll in benefits through Gusto as part of their onboarding process, regardless of whether your company’s open enrollment is currently in progress or has already ended. Here’s how it works:

• Each eligible new hire receives their own enrollment window, separate from the company-wide open enrollment period.
• New hires can enroll in benefits as soon as their Gusto account is finalized and their benefits eligibility begins (often after any applicable waiting period).
• They have up to 20 days after their coverage effective date to make their benefit selections.
• If a new hire’s first payslip from Gusto is in September, they will still be able to enroll in benefits after that point, as long as it is within their individual enrollment window.

If a new hire misses their enrollment window, their next opportunity to enroll will be during the next company open enrollment period or if they experience a qualifying life event (such as marriage or the birth of a child).
